*This has got to be the biggest debate in the music industry at the moment and I feel like I have to weigh in on it.
It has been almost a year (November 20th, 2009) since American Idol Season 9 runner-up Adam Lambert released the second single off his debut album "For Your Entertainment" (check out the album review). "Whataya Want From Me" was a touching ballad by the singer released after the disappointing reception to his first single and controversy at the American Music Awards that same month. Lambert's vocals allowed the track to become an emotion filled anthem for those dealing with a hard relationship. Months after the release, the song became a Billboard Top Ten hit and will be considered one of his signature songs throughout his entire career. Fans felt the struggle that Lambert was dealing with at the moment and the song itself was one that could crossover and resignate with any genre or generation of music lovers. The music video showed a different, stripped down side of the artist that I feel a lot more people related to. Here's his version of the hit ballad, still one of my favorites songs of 2009:
Of course when the song was released we knew that it was not Adam Lambert who actually wrote it, but a rebel hitmaker by the name of P!nk. Seeing someone as successful as P!nk work with a newcomer like Lambert was a pleasant treat for his fans. Fast forward now to 2010 and news began spreading over a studio recorded version of the song for P!nk's upcoming greatest hits album after she performed it numerous times on her tour. Today was the first time I heard the P!nk sung track in its entirely and I must say they both sound very similar. I adore P!nk, own most of her albums and enjoy her personality and attitude. However, I feel that once you give a song to another artist after scraping it from your album for some reason, you should not record it after they made it a hit when you could not. P!nk's version is good but I feel there is not enough emotion or feeling to it. Maybe it is because Lambert's was released first and some of the spark that made the song a hit has already disappeared. Or maybe Lambert just sang it a little bit better. Whatever the case, both versions are great, as are both artists, but I think I will stick with Lambert's version of the song. Here's P!nk's cover of the song, how do both compare?
