Nike says it designed shoe specifically for health care workers - Fox Business

Nike has made a new shoe designed specifically for health care workers who spend upwards of 11 hours per day on their feet.

The Air Zoom Pulse is fashioned in black with white soles and the Nike logo embedded in a blue, five-pointed star version of the EMS Star of Life, which is normally six-pointed. Six upcoming design variations featuring everything from the LGBTQ pride rainbow to cartoon sketches of medical instruments are set to go on sale next month.

Nike says it used insights gleaned from medical workers during product testing in designing the shoe.

NIKE LAUNCHES SNEAKER SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE FOR KIDS

"During the sessions, the designers of the Air Zoom Pulse learned the rigors of these health-care workers' day-to-day efforts," Nike wrote of the product testing sessions.

"Nurses, for example, walk approximately four to five miles and sit for less than an hour during the course of a 12-hour shift," the company said. "The work is physically and mentally demanding. The design for the Air Zoom Pulse tackles those challenges with simplicity in mind. The shoe is easy to get on and off, and equally simple to clean. The fit, cushioning and traction systems work together to secure the foot in all hospital conditions."

One of the six design variations of Nike's new Air Zoom Pulse shoes made specifically for members of the healthcare industry.

The shoe is easy to get on and take off along with a cushioned traction system that secures the foot comfortably during the hectic working conditions medical and healthcare professionals face.

The Air Zoom Pulse also features a rubber outsole with a flexible midsole, which is equipped with a Zoom Air heel unit that is "so secure, it feels like a soft, snug hug," according to Nike.

NIKE ENDS CONTROVERSIAL OREGON PROJECT

The shoe itself is designed as an "almost traditional clog made athletic," with the posture and arch support of athletic wear. The Air Zoom Pulse also features a coated toe box to protect against any kind of spills and a smooth, easy-to-clean surface.

Nike's product testing sessions took place at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital located in Portland, Oregon, with six young patients there designing their own individual Air Zoom Pulse shoes. Those six versions of the shoe will be released on sale on Dec. 7 on Nike.com, with all profits will being donated to OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, according to the athletic-wear company.

Robbers shoot 2 people and steal 20 pairs of high-end shoes in Tacoma, police say - Seattle Times

Posted: 17 Nov 2019 12:44 PM PST

A man and woman, both in their 20s, were taken to a hospital in Tacoma Saturday night after they were shot in the legs during a robbery.

The suspects — two men — stole 20 pairs of high-end tennis shoes, Officer Loretta Cool said Sunday.

The man, 25, suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg; the woman, 24, was shot in the right leg. Both were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for their injuries.

The suspects are still at large, Cool said. One is described as 6 feet tall and 300 pounds. The other is about 5-foot-6 and has a medium build, she said.

About 9 p.m. Saturday, the two suspects knocked on the door of an apartment in the 1700 block of South 84th Street. The man inside the apartment went to answer the door, while the woman went to the bathroom, Cool said.

The man who opened the door was shot immediately. The woman heard the shot and came out of the bathroom to see what was going on and was shot in the leg, too, Cool said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911.

Ashton Kutcher Sends New Running Shoes to Cross-Country Team in McAllen, Texas - Newser

Posted: 18 Nov 2019 06:44 AM PST

(Newser) – A Texas cross-country team might have thought they were being punk'd—but Ashton Kutcher really did come through for them in a pinch. Monica Gutierrez tells CNN that her son, an eighth-grader at the IDEA Tres Lagos school in McAllen, joined the cross-country team this year, and one of his teammates got injured because he couldn't afford real running shoes; he was practicing and competing in everyday sneakers. With the boys' regional meet approaching and no extra money of her own to help out, Gutierrez remembered that Kutcher had recently posted a phone number on Instagram asking fans to text him, and because Gutierrez knew about his past work with children, she figured she'd see if he could help get new running shoes for the whole team: "I thought, 'Come on, let's give it a shot.'"

Gutierrez texted the number, which spit back an auto reply with a link to the Community service used by stars to communicate with fans. After posting her message there, she then got an email telling her to send shoe specs to Kutcher's rep, Matt Kulina. Later that week, she found six new pairs of Asics running shoes on her stoop; another pair of size 13 shoes is on its way. Kulina tells USA Today that Kutcher, who's helping to launch the Community service, receives messages through the app, then decides which ones to get involved with. TechCrunch, the New York Times, and Wired explain more about the service, which is the new incarnation of a mobile app called Shimmur. As for the boys and their new shoes, they won regionals and placed third at the state meet. "I didn't expect it to happen," Gutierrez tells CNN. "The only thing we want is to say thank you for everything [Kutcher] has done." (Read more Ashton Kutcher stories.)
